Eldest NC leader Bal Bahadur Rai passes away at 90

The eldest Nepali Congress (NC) leader and former minister, Bal Bahadur Rai passed away while undergoing treatment at TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj in the Capital on Sunday. He was 90.

Rai, a long time patient of diabetics, kidney and spine related complexities, was admitted at the hospital for the past four days. He was declared dead at 4:10 p.m. today.

His body will be kept at the NC headquarters in Sanepa, Lalitpur for the final tributes.

According to family source, Rai's body will be taken to his ancestral village in Okhaldhunga for the last rites as per his wish.

The nonagenarian leader was born on Feb. 17, 1921 in Moli of Okhaldhunga district. He had played an active role in major democratic and republic movements of Nepal since his early age. Rai had served as acting prime minister for 19 times. He joined active politics in 1947.
